iomis Saves the Day

Mersey Maritime were more than happy with their decision to adopt iomis following major problems with their office systems recently.

Mersey Maritime, the umbrella organisation for the region's maritime industry represents over 900 companies across Greater Merseyside and communicates with its members primarily via email. Early last year, the organisation decided to migrate its contact management database to iomis, a web-based system for managing customers, projects, contracts and resources.

A series of external problems led Mersey Maritime to be without email and internet access for almost three weeks but fortunately, iomis triumphed as a disaster recovery solution, minimising the impact and enabling the organisation to continue with its day to day operations. The organisation had opted for the system to be hosted externally, meaning that despite problems with their own server, they still had access to their contact database via the internet.

David Pendleton, Business Development Director comments "Obviously, it was a problematic time for us. For an organisation like Mersey Maritime, which relies very heavily on electronic communication and the ability to access our customer records on a continuous basis, this could have been a real crisis. The fact that we had switched to an effective web-based system made a crucial difference as it allowed us to maintain contact with our clients simply by having access to our data on any computer with an internet connection".
